How to prepare a Supporting Data Values file for submission

Go to Author Information Center | How to prepare your revised manuscript for submission

Created July 13, 2023

This page is intended to help authors prepare a Supporting Data Values file according to Journal policy. Click here to see an example of a file prepared according to Journal standards (below). For details on data reporting, go to How to prepare your revised manuscript for submission.

Supporting Data Values file preparation
  • File contains values underlying all graphs in figures and behind any reported means.
    • This includes such values appearing in the supplemental material.
  • Provided as an Excel (XLS or XLSX) file (distinct from any other supplemental material).
    • All values are presented in a single spreadsheet.
    • A separate tab within the spreadsheet is used for each applicable figure part or table.
    • Tables are clearly labeled
  • Note: Before submission, carefully review your file; it will not be checked by a copy editor. The Journal is not responsible for any errors contained in the Supporting Data Values document.
  • View the Journal’s policy on Supporting Data here.
Supporting Data Values callout
  • A callout to the Supporting Data Values XLS file appears in Data Availability at the end of Methods; for example,
Values for all data points in graphs are reported in the Supporting Data Values file.
