Ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone family,
is prescribed off-label in infants less than one year of age. Ciprofloxacin is included in the
European Medicines Agency priority list of off-patent medicinal products requiring evaluation
