The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is an evolutionary conserved serine–threonine
kinase that senses various environmental stimuli in most cells primarily to control cell
growth. Restriction of cellular proliferation by mTOR inhibition led to the use of mTOR
inhibitors as immunosuppressants in allogeneic transplantation as well as novel anticancer
