Vascularized composite allograft (VCA) transplantation can restore form and function
following severe craniofacial injuries, extremity amputations or massive tissue loss. The
induction of transplant tolerance would eliminate the need for long-term
immunosuppression, realigning the risk–benefit ratio for these life-enhancing procedures.
