Oxidative stress in this section will refer to the availability of free radicals to react with target
tissues because of inadequate antioxidant capacity or bioavailability. One major target for
free radical reactions is the presence of unsaturated bonds in membrane phospholipids. The
consequence of this reaction is lipid peroxidation, which can result in the loss of membrane
