Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infected the myenteric plexus of the small and large bowels in an 18-
year-old renal transplant patient. This is, to our knowledge, a previously unreported
condition. The patient died of a massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage, which possibly
resulted from a series of CMV cecal ulcers associated with Candida fungal hyphae and
spores.
