Asymptomatic hypoglycemia is a major problem in diabetes. Mechanisms involved in a
patient's inability to sense low glucose levels are reviewed. Autonomic dysfunction is a key
contributor. Mechanistic studies suggest interventions that may restore the normal
autonomic response.
