The mediation of cancer cachexia is incompletely understood. Tumor induced anorexia and
weight loss was shown to be transmittable in tumor-bearing rats through plasma factors (1,
2). By using parabiotic cross circulation of normal and tumor bearing rats, Norton et al
showed that cancer cachexia was humorally mediated (3). Humoral mediation of cancer
