1.1. Methods
The processing of these guidelines included the following steps: definition of settings; implementation of working and reading groups; systematic review of French and English literature on the clinical aspects of CHIK (systematic search, selection of articles, critical analysis according to evidencebased medicine); grading of expert opinion (Likert scales); drafting of guidelines; external proofreading; and final reviewing.
The rationale and guidelines were prepared in compliance with the French National Authority for Health recommendations on good practice. Grades (A, B, C) were given to recommendations according to the level of scientific evidence [1–4] of the studies they were based on; when literature data was insufficient or incomplete, the recommendations were based on expert agreement (EA). The method used to prepare these recommendations was expert consensus because of the lack of literature data, or data with a low level of evidence. It had for advantage to synthesize information to define the degree of agreement within the group of selected experts. It also allowed determining the level of agreement among experts and identifying and selecting non-consensual points. The recommendations were thus drafted and classified according to the available literature and after agreement of experts.
