Neonatal hyperglycemia is one of the most common metabolic abnormalities encountered in
preterm and critically ill newborns. Although the definition varies, a blood glucose
concentration greater than 125 mg/dL (6.9 mmol/L) or a plasma or serum glucose
concentration greater than 150 mg/dL (8.3 mmol/L) often is used. Management of
