Acute tubular necrosis (ATN) is a syndrome of intrinsic renal failure secondary to ischemic or
toxic insults. The histopathologic findings of ATN are inconstant. When present, they are
limited to the tubulo-interstitium and often subtle despite profound dysfunction. Experimental
