In a quantitative investigation of the muscle content of the uterine wall, the greatest content
of muscle fibers were found in the corpus uteri. The content in muscle fibers diminishes
caudally, so that the cervix is composed of only about 10 per cent muscle fibers. The layers
of the inner uterine wall in the corpus region contain more muscle fibers than the outer
layers, and in this region the anterior and posterior walls contain more muscle fibers than the
