BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is frequently observed in insulin-
resistant subjects and can lead to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. The abnormalities of lipid
metabolism behind this development of excess hepatic TG stores are poorly understood.
