Prostaglandins have developed into an important tool in modern obstetrics. Although the
therapeutic role of prostaglandins in normal labor is limited, prostaglandins of the E and F
series arevaluable in the management of fetal death, cervical ripening, and postpartum
uterine atony. Modifications of naturally occurring prostaglandins have resulted in greater
ease of use and in fewer adverse reactions.
