Mutations in the α-actinin-4 gene ACTN4 cause an autosomal dominant human kidney
disease. Mice deficient in α-actinin-4 develop a recessive phenotype characterized by
kidney failure, proteinuria, glomerulosclerosis, and retraction of glomerular podocyte foot
