RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Following incubation of minces of either rat brain or liver with
[14C] glycine, there was a timedependent appearance of radioactivity which eluted from AG-
1 formate in a pattern similar to that for FGAR isolated by HENDERSON (1962) from ascites
cells. When known ['* C] FGAR was applied to the Dowex-1 formate column, 90 per cent of
the eluted radioactivity appeared in a peak identical with that observed following incubation

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Following incubation of minces of either rat brain or liver with [14C] glycine, there was a timedependent appearance of radioactivity which eluted from AG-1 formate in a pattern similar to that for FGAR isolated by HENDERSON (1962) from ascites cells. When known ['* C] FGAR was applied to the Dowex-1 formate column, 90 per cent of the eluted radioactivity appeared in a peak identical with that observed following incubation with minces of liver or brain. The material synthesized in minces of brain or liver from [14C] glycine was further identified as ['* C] FGAR in the following ways:(1) Ascending chromatography on Whatman# I paper gave an Rp identical to authentic [14Cc] FGAR.
