IN a previous communication1, one of us described the grouping of normal individuals into
three groups (I, II A and II B) on the basis of differences in their serum proteins. A full account
of the starch-gel electrophoretic method used for demonstrating these differences and a
discussion of the validity of the consequent groupings are now in the press2. In these two
papers it was suggested that the serum group of a given individual might be fixed and
determined by genetic factors.
