TE mortality and norbidity of a two or three times excess of normal weight is suffi-cient to encourage the use of vigorous and novel methods of treatinent. Operative treatment is justified when other forms of therapy fail. provided an operation is available which is acceptable, safe and effec-tive. Intestinał sidetracking has tındesir-ably allowed the patient to eat unlimited amounts of food and then, to suffer the effects of subsequent diarrhea with loss of fluid, electrolytes and essential nutriments. Overweight patients commonly lave other surgical problems which need attention, for example, giant incisional hernia. Pneumoperitoneum º re-establishes adequate intra-abdominal space, but effective and sustained weight reduction is also required for successful hernia repair. This report describes an operation which is de-signed to control olbesity by limiting the intake of food.
