The clinical and laboratory data on 81 patients with benign mucous membrane pemphigoid
(BMMP) seen during the years 1950 through 1968 were reviewed. Mucous-membrane and
cutaneous involvements were variable, but the oral mucosa and conjunctivae were
eventually involved in approximately 75% of the cases. Scarring was a common
complication of mucosal and cutaneous lesions. The most severe sequela was blindness. Of
