MATERIALS AND METHODS Rheumatoid factor activity in the tissues was determined with
fluoresceinlabeled aggregated IgG. Ig and complement components were detected by
fluorescein-or rhodamine-labeled antisera against immunoglobulin classes, IgG subclasses,
and complement factors. Tissue embedding and labeling techniques and tests for antisera
specificity and other reagents utilized have been described in previous publi~ ations.~~-~ g
