Publisher Summary The modification of arginine residues by ADP-ribosyltransferases can
be reversed by ADP-ribosylarginine hydrolases that remove the ADP-ribose moiety and
regenerate free arginine. In an experiment, a eukaryotic ADP-ribosylation cycle was
proposed based on the reversible modification of proteins catalyzed by the transferases and
hydrolases. Mono-ADP-ribosylation involves the transfer of the ADP-ribose moiety of NAD to
