Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are innate-like T cells that respond to lipid antigens
presented by CD1d. These immunoregulatory cells have the capacity for rapid cytokine
release after antigen recognition and are essential for the activation of multiple arms of the
immune response. HIV-1 infection is associated with iNKT cell depletion in the peripheral
