MATERIALS AND METHODS Normal adult human spinal cords have been examined.
Spinal cords from 69 mm.(3 months), 172 mm.(6 months) and 390 mm.(9 months) and
stillborn foetuses have also been investigated. Blocks have also been cut from adult human
brains. The material was routinely fixed in formol-acetic, Bouin's fixative and Bodian's
fixative. Sections were prepared after paraffin embedding and treated with a variety of stains.
The most valuable method was found to be Long's stain for reticulum
