The article presents an historical account of the prevalence of obesity in medical history.
Obesity was viewed differently at different times of history. Hippocrates gave importance to
energy balance equation. The link between obesity and diet and early obesity management
is given. The link between obesity and other diseases like sleep apnoea, diabetes, coronary
heart disease is explored. The article suggests lessons should be learned from history to
give importance to health preservation.
