The article reports on the impact of expanded screening of newborn infants in the US using
tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Newborns are being screened for selected metabolic,
endocrine, hematologic and functional disorders. It was found that expanding the screening
of these infants would increase the number of children identified by 32 percent.
